I created a complete ensemble of Catholic liturgical furnishings
that complements the architectural design of the Chapel. The Ambo,
Altar, Presider’s Chair, and Tabernacle form a single line
that defines the main ceremonial axis of the worship space.
The carved designs on the Altar, Ambo, and Tabernacle are based
on Polish folk art that reflects the ethnic heritage of the Seminary.
The life-size crucifix is suspended dramatically beneath the dome
and above the altar at the very heart of the sacred space. I carved
it in the round so that it has a powerful effect when viewed from
any vantage point. Christ is depicted at the poignant moment between
life and death, when “He bowed down His head and gave up the
ghost.”
