To create art for Jewish faith communities requires the utmost
sensitivity and respect for interpretations of historical and theological
attitudes towards visual imagery in the Jewish tradition.
At present I have created only one image for the Jewish faith.
Located in the lobby of Beth Israel Congregation synagogue in Ann
Arbor, it takes the symbolic form of the “Tree of Life.”
This image grew out of long, thoughtful discussions that I had with
the leaders and membership of the community. We feel that we have
remembered and honored the long history of Israel by symbolizing
it in the form of an olive tree, which has played such a central
role in the lives of the Jewish people. |
