In each of these churches, I designed, fabricated, carved and installed
Icon Screens and Royal Doors.
The Icon Screen, “Iconostasion” in Greek, is a unique
structure that connects the ordinary world of the congregation to
the holy world of the altar in all Orthodox Churches. Its two Deacons’
Doors and one Royal Door form the ceremonial pathway for the Small
Entry with the Gospel and the Great Entry with the Host. Along with
this liturgical purpose, the Icon Screen frames images of Christ,
The Theotokos, John the Baptist, the Patron Saint of the Parish
and often many other Icons of Saints and Holy Days.
Carved motifs usually consist of grape vines, lilies, doves, and
peacocks, all symbolic references to Christ and the Holy Ghost.
