Combining the Processional Cross, which bears the Corpus, with
the Permanent, or Sanctuary Cross is becoming a more and more common
practice in new Catholic Churches. In Rossford, the community and
the Priest were very desirous of creating a Corpus carved in wood
large enough to be visible in a large space and yet light enough
to be manageable when carried in procession.
We achieved this goal by carving a one half life-sized Corpus,
32” in height, from Butternut and hollowing it out, thereby
keeping the weight of the Processional Cross including the Corpus
below ten pounds.
